We are convinced that this diversity of experience and skills helps FINMA to perform its duties well.
You will find further information in the key personnel indicators.
About one third of our employees have been with us for more than six years and worked at one of FINMA's predecessor institutions. The other two thirds have different backgrounds and experience in the finance industry, auditing or at a law firm.
Over 80% of our employees hold university degrees and further additional qualifications. Mostly they studied economics or law, accounting or mathematics.
We attach importance to having a good balance between fresh knowledge and valuable experience. The average employee age is 42, which is on the youthful side. Some 70% of employees are between 30 and 50. Roughly one fifth are over 50.
Around 40% of FINMA employees are female. Women account for 27% of senior managers.
FINMA employees normally work in their first language. But as a multilingual body, FINMA also offers employees the opportunity to use their knowledge of the different national languages in their daily work. Roughly four fifths of employees are German speakers; 15% are French speakers and 5% have Italian as their first language. English matters for the many staff who have international contacts.
Some 15% of our staff come from abroad. Most of these come from neighbouring countries. As working at FINMA generally requires very detailed knowledge of the Swiss financial market and Swiss legislation, we generally hire people who have lived and worked in Switzerland for a considerable time.
