FOPI Mission Statement
- We protect insured persons by acting on behalf of the long-term stability of the insurance undertakings (securing solvency) and intervening against abuses by the insurance undertakings. We act on the basis of a functioning market and promote healthy competition that guarantees security and freedom of choice.
- Through our actions, we strengthen confidence in a functioning and healthy insurance market, thereby contributing to the stability and reputation of the entire Swiss financial centre. We take into account the postulates of politics and society which demand that private insurance also support the social security net.
- Our method of operation and our decisions are transparent and responsive to the needs of the market. Our supervision philosophy is based on risks and principles and is forward-looking (prudential). We promote self-regulation processes and transparency in the insurance industry and orient ourselves toward all the stakeholder groups that are relevant for a sustainable operation of the insurance business. Our costs are covered entirely by fees levied from the insurance undertakings.
- In fulfilling our legislative mandate, we rely on competent staff members who are committed to a professional work ethic and who exercise their supervision responsibilities independently and at a high level of quality. In this way, we offer our staff members an attractive workplace with prospects for the future.
- We are integrated into the international development of supervision, which we aim to shape and support within the realm of our possibilities. With a view to an insurance industry that also plays an important role internationally, we aim to be perceived in Switzerland and abroad as a strong, competent, and efficient supervisory authority.
