Monica Mächler announces her resignation as vice-chair and member of the FINMA Board of Directors

Monica Mächler will step down as vice-chair and member of the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority FINMA Board of Directors at the end of September 2012. As the then director of the Federal Office of Private Insurance, Ms Mächler assisted in its incorporation into FINMA; as a member of the FINMA Board of Directors and of important international committees for insurance supervision, she has since made a significant contribution to developing and establishing the supervisory authority. The Federal Council will decide at a later stage about the appointment of a new vice-chair.
Monica Mächler was appointed in 2007 as director of the Federal Office of Private Insurance (FOPI). In 2009, she became vice-chair of the FINMA Board of Directors. She has been a member of various international committees for insurance supervision, in particular of the IAIS (International Association of Insurance Supervisors) where she has led the Technical Committee, which is its central organ for standard setting.

Commenting on the announcement of her resignation, the Chair of FINMA, Anne Héritier Lachat said: "On behalf of my colleagues and FINMA, I would like to thank Monica Mächler for the great commitment she showed to our supervisory authority at a challenging time. We are glad that we can count on her broad expertise until the end of September." Monica Mächler herself remarks "I have always been fully dedicated to shaping along with my colleagues the numerous projects conducted to establish FINMA and at the international level. After being active in supervision for more than five years, the time has now come for me to take on new challenges."
