The Federal Council has elected Franz Wipfli, an insurance expert, to the FINMA Board of Directors and appointed the present board member, Paul Müller, as vice-chair.
An economist, Franz Wipfli, who is 61, has been appointed as a new member of the FINMA Board of Directors. He can look back on many years of experience in the field of insurance and, before he retired, he was CEO of the Zurich Insurance Group Ltd Austria and a member of the Extended Group Executive Board at Zurich Financial Services. He has been a member of the KPT insurance group board of directors since February 2012. He will give up this mandate once he takes up his new office at FINMA.
Paul Müller has been elected as the new vice-chair of the FINMA Board of Directors. Paul Müller, who is 62, has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2009. He follows in the footsteps of Monica Mächler.

The Board of Directors is FINMA's strategic management body. It sets the strategic goals, decides on matters of substantial importance, issues FINMA ordinances and circulars, and oversees the Executive Board.
