The Conference of European Insurance Supervisory Services convened for the first time in 1949. The objective at that time was to rebuild Europe, and this was the only international forum in this field. Despite the many different international insurance forums that have been created since then, the Conference decided in 1995 to retain biennial meetings. The Conference thus became the “Pan-European Conference”, a venue at which the supervisory authorities of all European countries and of neighbouring states on the eastern borders could exchange experiences in an informal setting. Switzerland has provided the permanent secretariat since 1995.
The next Conference will take place in Bucharest (Romania) on 4-5 June 2009.
