International co-operation
The Federal Office of Private Insurance FOPI is in regular informal contact with the insurance supervisory authorities of Switzerland’s neighbours, particularly those in German-speaking and French-speaking countries. Such contact is of great use, allowing for the exchange of experience in day-to-day supervisory activities.
The need for cooperation with foreign authorities is greatest in the supervision of insurance groups and financial conglomerates. Such groups and conglomerates are rarely confined to one country, which is why the supervisory activities of the relevant authorities in each country have to be coordinated. With this in mind, and to facilitate information exchange in general, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with all EU and EEA Member States.
