Birgit Rutishauser has decided to leave the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority FINMA on 30 April 2025. After almost nine years, the Deputy CEO and Head of the Insurance division is embarking on a new career outside FINMA. FINMA’s Board of Directors and Executive Board thank Birgit Rutishauser for her valuable contribution during her time at FINMA.
Birgit Rutishauser joined FINMA in June 2016. She initially headed the Risk Management section in the Insurance division. In this function, she was responsible in particular for the supervision of qualitative and quantitative risk management at supervised insurance companies.
In mid-September 2018, Birgit Rutishauser was then appointed Head of the Insurance division and a member of FINMA’s Executive Board. In this role, she was responsible for the successful implementation of the ISA and ISO revision, among other things. She was Deputy CEO from 1 June 2019. She served as CEO ad interim from 1 October 2023 to 31 March 2024 (cf. CV and photo).
CEO Stefan Walter says: “On behalf of the entire Executive Board, I would like to thank Birgit Rutishauser for her enormous dedication to FINMA. She was a valued member of the Executive Board and played a key role in shaping the further development of insurance regulation and supervision during this time. We very much regret her decision to leave FINMA and wish her every success in the future.

Birgit Rutishauser led FINMA very competently during a challenging period for the authority. Her dedication to our authority has earned her great esteem both internally and externally. Birgit Rutishauser will step down from her position as Divisional Head and Deputy CEO on 30 April 2025.
